Accessibility

Our commitment

We're parent volunteers, and we want this site to work for everyone in our community — including folks who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, or other assistive tech. Accessibility isn't an afterthought here; it's something we design and build for from the start.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That's a widely used standard for making web content accessible.

We last reviewed the site against that standard in August 2026, page by page, and fixed what we found. We'll review it again each August, when the school year turns over — and sooner if you tell us about something that isn't working.

What we do

• A “Skip to content” link so keyboard users can jump past the menu.
• Semantic page structure (real headings, landmarks, and lists) so screen readers can navigate.
• Visible focus outlines so you can always see where you are when using a keyboard.
• Color combinations chosen to meet AA contrast, so text stays readable.
• Respect for the “reduce motion” setting — animations are minimized if your device asks for it.
• Descriptive text alternatives for meaningful images.
• A mobile-first, responsive layout that works on phones, tablets, and desktops, and supports browser zoom.

Known limitations

We're honest about where we're not perfect yet:

• Donations and store checkout happen on Stripe's pages, which we don't control; Stripe maintains its own accessibility.
• Some older documents linked from the site (for example PDFs) may not be fully accessible. Ask us and we'll provide the information another way.
• Content is added by volunteers, so an occasional image may be missing a description or a heading may be out of order. Tell us and we'll fix it.
• On a computer, tabbing across the calendar's month grid steps through every day in the month one at a time. If that's slow going, the same events are listed as a plain agenda — switch to a narrow window or use a phone, or subscribe to the calendar feed and read it in your own calendar app.

Email info@ortegapto.org with the page address and a short description of the problem, and we'll respond as soon as we can. If you need information that's posted on the site in a different format, we're glad to provide it.
